Jio speed test
Check how fast your Jio connection really is right now: download, upload, ping and jitter, in your browser, with no app.
- Download–Mbps
- Upload–Mbps
- Ping–ms
- Jitter–ms
What this connection is good for
A test uses mobile data: about 10–20 MB on a slow line, 100 MB or more on fast 5G or fibre. Results are measured from your browser to the nearest Cloudflare data centre and change with your device, WiFi, time of day and network load. They are for your information only and are not an official measurement by TRAI or any operator.
How to test Jio speed properly
Turn off WiFi on your phone first, so the test runs on Jio mobile data and not on your home broadband. Close apps that download in the background (app updates, cloud photo backup), then press Start. The provider shown above the dial tells you which network the test went over: it should say Reliance Jio.
Run the test two or three times, and at different times of day. Mobile speeds change with how many people share the same tower, so one reading in the evening rush can be much lower than one at 7 in the morning.
Jio 4G or Jio 5G?
Jio's 5G (sold as True 5G) runs as a standalone 5G network, separate from its 4G LTE network. You get 5G only with a 5G phone, in an area with Jio 5G coverage, and with 5G switched on in the phone's settings. If the status bar shows 4G or LTE, this test measures your 4G speed.
- Android: Settings › Network › SIM › Preferred network type › 5G (the menu names differ by phone maker).
- iPhone: Settings › Mobile Service › Mobile Data Options › Voice & Data › 5G Auto or 5G On.
Why Jio internet can be slow
- Daily data used up. Many prepaid plans give a fixed amount of high-speed data each day; after that the speed drops a lot until the next day. Check your balance in the MyJio app.
- Busy tower. In the evening many people share the same tower. Test again later or from another spot.
- Weak signal indoors. 5G and the higher 4G bands do not pass through walls well. Try near a window.
- Wrong APN. The APN is normally set by itself. If mobile data does not work at all, check that the APN is
jionet.
If speeds stay low for days in the same place, note the readings (the table of past results below the test keeps your last ten) and raise a complaint with Jio customer care. Our guide on complaining about slow internet explains the steps.
Questions people ask
Is this an official Jio speed test?
No. It is an independent test that works on any network. It measures your connection to the nearest Cloudflare data centre, which is how most speed tests work.
Does the test use my Jio data?
Yes. A test moves data at full speed for a few seconds, so a fast 5G line can use 100 MB or more. The result shows how much data your test used.
How this test works
Your browser first times eleven tiny requests to the nearest Cloudflare data centre (ping and jitter), then downloads test files over several connections until the speed holds steady, then uploads random data the same way. The first moments, while the connection speeds up, are left out. Nothing you download or upload is kept.
