What this connection is good for
A test uses mobile data: about 10–20 MB on a slow line, 100 MB or more on fast 5G or fibre. Results are measured from your browser to the nearest Cloudflare data centre and change with your device, WiFi, time of day and network load. They are for your information only and are not an official measurement by TRAI or any operator.
Make sure you are on 5G
The test measures whatever network your phone is using at that moment. Before you press Start, check the status bar shows 5G, switch WiFi off, and stay still: walking can move the phone between 5G and 4G during the test.
What affects 5G speed
- Band and distance. The mid-band 5G used most in India gives high speeds near the tower and less indoors or far away.
- Standalone or not. Jio's 5G runs standalone; Airtel's runs alongside 4G (non-standalone). Both can be fast; the phone's indicator decides which network the test uses.
- How many people share the cell, especially in the evening.
- Your plan's data limits: some plans count 5G data differently. Check your operator's app.
A 5G test can use a lot of data in a few seconds. The result shows how much your test used.
Questions people ask
Why does my 5G phone show 4G?
5G may not reach where you are, 5G may be off in settings, or the phone may prefer 4G to save battery. Try setting the preferred network to 5G.
Is 5G ping lower than 4G?
Often a little, but the distance to the server and how busy the network is matter more.
How this test works
Your browser first times eleven tiny requests to the nearest Cloudflare data centre (ping and jitter), then downloads test files over several connections until the speed holds steady, then uploads random data the same way. The first moments, while the connection speeds up, are left out. Nothing you download or upload is kept.
