Ping test
Measure your ping (latency), jitter and ping while the line is busy. Lower is better for games, video calls and live classes.
- Download–Mbps
- Upload–Mbps
- Ping–ms
- Jitter–ms
What this connection is good for
A test uses mobile data: about 10–20 MB on a slow line, 100 MB or more on fast 5G or fibre. Results are measured from your browser to the nearest Cloudflare data centre and change with your device, WiFi, time of day and network load. They are for your information only and are not an official measurement by TRAI or any operator.
What the three numbers mean
- Ping is the time for a tiny message to reach the server and come back, in milliseconds (ms). We show the middle value of eleven tries.
- Jitter is how much the ping changes from one try to the next. High jitter makes calls choppy even when the ping is low.
- Ping while downloading (shown after the test) is the round trip while your line is full. If it is far higher than the idle ping, your router or provider holds too much data in queues ("bufferbloat"), which causes lag when someone else in the house is streaming.
What is a good ping?
| Ping | What it feels like |
|---|---|
| Under 30 ms | Excellent, good for competitive games |
| 30–60 ms | Good for most games and calls |
| 60–100 ms | Fine for calls and casual games |
| Over 100 ms | Noticeable lag in games; calls still work |
Game servers may be farther away than our test server, so your in-game ping can be higher. More in what ping and jitter mean.
Questions people ask
Can I lower my ping?
Use a cable or stand near the router, stop downloads on other devices, and pick game servers in India where you can.
Why is mobile ping higher than broadband?
Mobile data passes through more equipment and the radio link adds delay, so 4G and 5G pings are usually higher than fibre.
How this test works
Your browser first times eleven tiny requests to the nearest Cloudflare data centre (ping and jitter), then downloads test files over several connections until the speed holds steady, then uploads random data the same way. The first moments, while the connection speeds up, are left out. Nothing you download or upload is kept.
