WiFi speed test

Find out how fast your WiFi is where you are sitting: download, upload, ping and jitter, measured in your browser.

–Mbps

  • Download–Mbps
  • Upload–Mbps
  • Ping–ms
  • Jitter–ms

A test uses mobile data: about 10–20 MB on a slow line, 100 MB or more on fast 5G or fibre. Results are measured from your browser to the nearest Cloudflare data centre and change with your device, WiFi, time of day and network load. They are for your information only and are not an official measurement by TRAI or any operator.

Is it the WiFi or the internet?

A speed test measures everything between your device and the internet: the WiFi, the router, and your provider's line. To find the slow part, run two tests:

  1. One right next to the router (or on a LAN cable). This shows what your plan delivers.
  2. One where you usually sit. The gap between the two is what the WiFi costs you there.

If both are slow, the line or plan is the limit. If only the far room is slow, move the router to a more central, higher spot, use the 5 GHz band nearby, or add a mesh unit or access point.

Quick fixes for slow WiFi

  • Keep the router in the open, off the floor, away from the microwave and metal cupboards.
  • Use 5 GHz (or 6 GHz) for speed close by, 2.4 GHz for reach through walls.
  • Restart the router now and then, and update its firmware from its settings page.
  • Too many devices? Check which ones are downloading in the background.

Questions people ask

Why is my WiFi speed lower than my plan?

WiFi loses speed with distance, walls and interference from neighbours’ networks, and older devices have slower WiFi. A test next to the router shows the line’s real speed.

Does this test work on a laptop?

Yes, in any modern browser on a phone, tablet or computer.

How this test works

Your browser first times eleven tiny requests to the nearest Cloudflare data centre (ping and jitter), then downloads test files over several connections until the speed holds steady, then uploads random data the same way. The first moments, while the connection speeds up, are left out. Nothing you download or upload is kept.
