Jewellery price calculator
Type the jeweller's rate, the weight and the making charge. Each part of the price and the GST shows separately, so you can check the bill.
This works only on the rate you type; the site does not show or fetch any gold or silver rate. GST is 3% on the whole bill when you buy jewellery from a shop, making charges included. Hallmarking, wastage and stone charges vary from shop to shop, so ask for a written bill that shows each part. This is a calculator, not a price quote, and is not connected with any jeweller, IBJA or MCX.
Reading the purity mark
Gold jewellery sold in most districts must carry a BIS hallmark: the BIS logo, the purity in carats and parts per thousand (22K916 means 91.6% gold), and a six-digit HUID code for that piece. You can check a HUID in the BIS Care app.
| Carat | Mark | Gold in 10 g |
|---|---|---|
| 24K | 995 | 9.95 g |
| 22K | 916 | 9.16 g |
| 20K | 833 | 8.33 g |
| 18K | 750 | 7.50 g |
| 14K | 585 | 5.85 g |
How the bill is made up
- Metal value: rate per gram for the purity × weight.
- Making charges: a percentage of the metal value, a rate per gram, or a fixed amount. Some shops call part of it wastage.
- Stones are charged separately; their weight should not be billed at the gold rate.
- GST at 3% on the total.
- If you exchange old gold, its value is taken off the bill.
