Dhanteras jewellery price calculator
Dhanteras is on Friday, 6 November 2026, two days before Diwali on Sunday, 8 November 2026 (dates for New Delhi). Before you pay, type the rate the jeweller quotes and the weight: each part of the bill and the GST shows separately.
This works only on the rate you type; the site does not show or fetch any gold or silver rate. GST is 3% on the whole bill when you buy jewellery from a shop, making charges included. Hallmarking, wastage and stone charges vary from shop to shop, so ask for a written bill that shows each part. This is a calculator, not a price quote, and is not connected with any jeweller, IBJA or MCX.
Before you pay: a checklist
- Ask the rate for the purity you are buying. A shop's board often shows the 24K rate; 22K jewellery is priced lower. Pick "24K / 999" in the calculator if that is the rate you were given.
- Look for the hallmark. It shows the BIS logo, the purity (22K916 means 91.6% gold) and a six-character HUID code. Check the HUID in the BIS CARE app before you pay.
- Watch the piece being weighed on the shop's scale, and write the weight down.
- Ask how making charges are worked out: a percentage, a rate per gram or a fixed amount, and whether "wastage" is extra. Ask two shops and compare their totals here.
- Stones are charged on their own. Their weight should not be billed at the gold rate.
- GST is 3% of the whole bill, making charges included.
- Exchanging old gold? Ask how its purity is tested and what is taken off before you agree to a value.
- Take a proper bill that shows the weight, purity, rate, making charges and GST, and keep it with the hallmark details.
Coins and silver
Gold coins and bars are usually 24K (995 or 999) and carry lower making charges than jewellery. Silver is quoted per kilogram: pick Silver in the calculator and type the rate per kg. Sterling silver is 925; coins are often 999.
Questions people ask
Is GST charged on making charges?
Yes. When you buy jewellery from a shop, GST at 3% is charged on the whole bill: the metal, the making charges and any stones.
What does 916 mean on gold?
It is the purity in parts per thousand: 916 is 91.6% gold, which is 22 carat. 750 is 18 carat and 585 is 14 carat.
How do I check a HUID?
Every hallmarked piece has its own six-character HUID. Type it into the BIS CARE app and check that the details it shows match the piece and the bill.
Does this site show today's gold rate?
No. Rates change through the day and differ by city and shop, so type the rate your jeweller quotes. The calculator only does the sums.
