How to find your UPI ID

Updated: 2026-10-11

@

A UPI ID (also called a VPA, virtual payment address) is the address money is sent to. It has two parts joined by @: a handle, often your mobile number or name, and the short name of the bank or app that issued it. Examples: 9876543210@ybl, ramesh.sharma@okaxis, sharmastore@oksbi.

Where to find it

Every UPI app shows your ID on your profile screen. Open the app, tap your photo, initials or the Profile icon (usually at the top left or top right), and look for a line that ends in @ and a short name. Most apps have a copy button next to it. Your bank's own mobile banking app also has a UPI section that lists every ID linked to your account.

  • If you see more than one ID, they all reach the same bank account. Use the one you check most often.
  • An email address like name@gmail.com is not a UPI ID, even though it also has an @. The part after @ in a UPI ID never has a dot.
  • Your mobile number alone is not enough for a QR code. The code needs the full ID with the part after @.

Check it before you print

Type the ID into the UPI QR code generator, then scan the code with someone else's phone. Their app shows the name registered with your bank before they pay. Send ₹1 and check that it arrives in your account. Do this every time you print new stands, because one wrong letter sends customers' money nowhere, or to someone else.

Personal or business ID?

A personal UPI ID works for a small shop: customers scan, pay and you get the money in your bank account. Some apps show the payee as a person rather than a verified merchant, and a few may ask the customer to type the amount themselves. If you take many payments a day, ask your bank about a merchant (current account) UPI ID, which shows your shop as a verified business and gives you settlement reports.

Keep it safe

Your UPI ID is safe to share: people can only send money to it. Your UPI PIN is what must stay secret. Nobody needs your PIN to pay you, so anyone asking for it, or asking you to "scan to receive money", is trying to cheat you.
